In Technology, we’re focused on delivering value to our customers, supporting each other and developing our people’s capability so we’ve created a completely new way of working – domains. Domains are collections of people from across Technology who’re organised into specific groups so we can be more agile. Each domain has its own focus and our graduates will complete four rotations in one of these domains so, by the time your rotations are over, you’ll be an expert in that field.
We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates, and the friendly, down to earth community our graduates have shaped themselves.
Before you start, you’ll be paired with a ‘buddy’ (a graduate already on the programme) who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.
You’ll also be assigned a Graduate Coach and a Placement Manager. Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal Capability Plan; your Placement Manager will provide rotation specific support, and may change with each placement. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.
For a fuller picture of how you’ll progress through the programme and the support you’ll receive at each stage, check out the Graduate Professional Development journey below.
If we offer you a role, one of the first things we’ll do is invite you to join our website for successful graduates – our onboarding portal. It’s a great way for us to communicate key messages and to make sure you’re all ready for your first day. We’ll pair you up with your buddy who’ll be able to answer your questions before starting and who’ll help you settle in. We’ll introduce you to your line manager before you start too, because we want to make sure you hit the ground running.
#Banking, #RBS is a programme we’ve designed to help you get ready for day one and to give you the key skills that’ll take you through your first six months. It’s a series of modules all our graduates take part in and it’ll help you understand how our entire business operates.
The training focuses on:
- How our business is structured
- Who your customers are going to be
- How we judge risk
- How we’re innovating and the external business climate
- Networking with other business areas
- Seeing the front to back and back to front of our whole operation
We kick off your training before your first day where you’ll complete some short, bite size activities that we’ll build on when you join. After you start, you’ll have the chance to take part in a series of learning modules to improve your understanding of our whole business, how we’re connected with each other and how we drive successful customer outcomes.
This will include meeting your buddy and support team, getting to know your fellow graduates, and taking part in an in-depth induction period, which will give you a broad understanding of how RBS works, our values, and our goals.
You’ll hear from leaders across our business and be brought up to speed on key topics like our customers, bank structure, entrepreneurship, risk and control, technology and digital innovation.
After the induction, you’ll begin your first rotation. You’ll be assigned a Placement Manager and team in Technology and be immersed in their work for six months.
The remaining rotations will be tailored to the knowledge and skills required for your end role. You’ll work within different teams, learning and adapting to new challenges and broadening your range of experience. You’ll work with your Graduate Coach to agree the objectives and outcomes of each rotation.
As you progress through each rotation you’ll be able to take advantage of a comprehensive suite of learning and training options to develop the technical and business expertise you’ll need.
You’ll also be able to work towards a recognised formal qualification as part of your development.
During the programme you’ll take part in a community project with a team of fellow graduates. This involves linking up with a charitable organisation and developing and delivering a solution to support their work.
You’ll have the chance to participate in a fund raising competition with other teams, and present your project to a panel of senior managers. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to a valuable cause and put your entrepreneurial skills to the test!
For the Technology Programme you’ll need to be on course for, or already have achieved, a 2:2 or above.
We are looking for curious and inquisitive people, with a real passion for technology and the drive to explore how it can be used to make a positive difference for our customers. You’ll be keen to work in a fast-paced environment, responding to customers’ changing needs and priorities.
- A strong customer focus
- Problem solving skills, with a willingness to learn and quickly adapt to change
- An innovative and creative mind-set
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build great working relationships as you work towards a common goal
In short, you’ll be something of an all-rounder – as comfortable solving technical problems as you are explaining concepts and thrashing out ideas with others.
If that sounds like you, then why not apply?
