RBS International is a wholesale bank operating under five brands – RBS International, NatWest International, Isle of Man Bank, Coutts Crown Dependencies, and NatWest TDS (Trustee Depositary Services).
RBS International is headquartered in Jersey, with a presence in Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Luxembourg, Edinburgh and London. Our graduate programme for 2020 will be based in Jersey, but the opportunity to travel around our business may be possible if your role requires it.
Living and working in Jersey enables you to build a fantastic career while benefitting from the work life balance here on the island, with shorter commutes and stunning scenery to relax in.
As part of our Graduate cohort, you’ll get the opportunity to work with colleagues from across our jurisdictions and you’ll have exposure to customers in the Local, Private and Institutional sectors, giving you an insight into how banking supports every part of life. You’ll also get to spend time in the teams that support our customer facing colleagues to deliver an outstanding banking service to each of our customers every day.
RBS International has its own Board of Directors and Management Team, meaning you’ll also gain exposure to our executive committee; a unique opportunity to learn from colleagues at the top of our business. Our size and reach means you can expect exposure across a range of projects and initiatives on top of your everyday role, giving you the chance to develop at a fast pace.
If you join us, you’ll be working with talented people to make a real contribution to the bank we’re becoming.
Our programme’s based in Jersey and you can read more about it under ‘current openings’ at the bottom of this page.
Our business areas
Your graduate experience will take you across three different areas of work:
- Customer facing
- Business delivery
Gaining experience in all these areas is important because you’ll build a well rounded skill set so, after your two years, you’ll be prepared for a wide range of career options that’ll be open to you. You’ll experience these different areas of the business:
If you’re passionate about customer service and looking to build your bright career in banking, a customer facing role could be your perfect fit.
You’ll have exposure to customers that bank with our Institutional Banking and Local Banking businesses.
Experience in these teams will equip you with the skills and experiences you’ll need to move into different roles, such as Relationship Manager, Foreign Exchange Sales Analyst and Business Support.
You’ll build technical skills and experience in different specialist areas, and will become an expert in building solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. You’ll learn to understand how every interaction you make helps take RBS International closer to our goal of being the number one bank for customer service, trust and advocacy.
In these areas you’ll deliver innovative solutions – ensuring we’re always ahead of the curve when meeting our customers’ needs. Teams include Finance, Treasury and Strategy.
You’ll help to inform the bank’s decisions with the highest quality data and customer insight, and focus on keeping our bank competitive, commercially successful and safe.
You’ll be developing relationships across the organisation, where you can influence, drive and manage effective change.
About the programme
The aim of the two year programme’s to equip you with the skills and experiences you’ll need to become a leading professional in RBS International.
We'll reward you with a competitive salary of £30,090 and access to our flexible benefits package.
After a full induction, the programme’s structured around a number of rotations around the business.
We’ll be supporting your career development throughout, but particularly during your last rotation we’ll focus on what roles you could step into next. This programme would be excellent preparation for a whole range of career paths, and at the end of the two years, we hope to see you join us in a permanent role.
We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates.
Before you start, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ who’ll be a graduate already on the programme, and who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.
Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal development plan. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.
For more details about how you’ll progress through the programme and the support you’ll receive at each stage, check out the Graduate Professional Development journey below.
If we offer you a role, one of the first things we’ll do is invite you to join our onboarding portal for successful graduates. It’s a great way for us to communicate key messages and to make sure you’re all ready for your first day. We’ll pair you up with your buddy who’ll be able to answer your questions before starting and who’ll help you settle in. We’ll also introduce you to your line manager before you start too, because we want to make sure you hit the ground running.
#Banking, #RBS is a programme we’ve designed to help you get ready for day one and beyond by building your knowledge. It’s training that all our graduates take part in and it’ll help you understand how our entire business operates.
The training focuses on:
- How our business is structured
- Who our customers are
- How we manage risk
- How we’re innovating and the external business climate
- Networking with other business areas
- Seeing the front to back and back to front of our whole operation
The training’s delivered in lots of different ways, including:
- Live virtual sessions using our internal social network, Workplace
- Workshops with our Entrepreneurial Development Academy
- Shadowing colleagues
- Sessions with mentors
We start your training before your first day where you’ll complete some short, bite sized activities that we’ll then build on when you join. After you start, you’ll have the chance to take part in a series of learning activities to improve your understanding of our whole business, how we’re connected with each other and how we drive successful customer outcomes.
This’ll include meeting your buddy and support team, getting to know your fellow graduates, and taking part in an in-depth two day induction period, which’ll give you a broad understanding of how RBS works, our values, and our goals.
You’ll hear from leaders across our business and be brought up to speed on key topics like our customers, bank structure, entrepreneurship, risk and control, technology and digital innovation.
After the induction, you’ll begin your first rotation. We’ll assign you a business area where you’ll be immersed in its work.
During your rotations, you’ll have time to discuss options with your support team and learn more about the areas that interest you.
The scale and diversity of RBS International means you’ll benefit from an excellent range of placement options. The overall aim of the rotation system is to give you exposure to the full breadth of work we do. So, wherever you go, variety is key.
During the programme you’ll take part in a community project with a team of fellow graduates. This involves linking up with a charitable organisation and developing and delivering a solution to support its work.
You’ll have the chance to participate in a fund raising competition with other teams, and present your project to a panel of senior managers. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to a valuable cause and put your entrepreneurial skills to the test!
You’ll need to be on course for, or already have achieved, a 2:2 in your degree.
We’re a varied business, and you don’t need to be studying a particular subject to succeed.
But we’ll be looking out for people who can demonstrate:
- An inquisitive and independent mind set, with the desire to bring new ideas to the table
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills
- The ability to build great working relationships and give professional challenge
- A meticulous eye for detail and a good sense of judgement
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges
