Customer Solutions Graduate programme

If you’re looking to build a career in commercial or corporate banking, our Customer Solutions pathway is the perfect place to start.

Whether it’s entrepreneurial start-ups, growing SMEs or well known corporates, as a graduate trainee you’ll get the chance to work directly with our customers, building a deep understanding of the sectors they work in.

You’ll soon be harnessing your talents to build relationships, structure solutions and shape the banking products of the future.

About the programme

Within our Customer Solutions pathway you can apply to either our Commercial Banking programme or our Structured Finance programme. Both these two year programmes are designed to equip you with the skills and experiences you’ll need to become a well-rounded banker and future leader.

The Commercial Banking Programme offers a comprehensive grounding in commercial banking. As a key part of this, you’ll be working directly with a diverse group of corporate customers to understand their needs and develop your relationship building skills. In addition it provides a unique opportunity to shape the bank’s innovation and digital agenda.

As part of this programme you can look forward to:

  • Developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs across a range of sectors and expertise in the products we offer
  • Gaining experience of building client relationships
  • Building robust credit, lending and risk management skills
  • Acquiring insight into product development, innovation, and our growing digital banking capability
  • Developing the confidence and critical capabilities you need for success in the bank

Our Structured Finance programme focuses more specifically on larger more sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, with complex financing needs. It will provide you with the specialist skills to build your career across a wide range of debt financing products.

On the Structured Finance programme, you can look forward to:

  • Gaining experience of building client relationships
  • Developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and expertise in the products we offer
  • Building strong financial modelling, credit analysis and risk management skills
  • Acquiring insight into product development and digital banking
  • Originating, structuring and executing debt financing transactions from end to end
  • Developing the confidence to raise ideas, develop solutions and challenge the status quo

Both programmes will have market facing compensation. On top of your salary you’ll also have access to our flexible benefits package.

After a full induction, each programme is structured around four six month rotations, each based in different areas of our Customer Solutions business.

On completing the programme, we hope to see you join us in a permanent role. We’ll be advising you on career development throughout your journey, but particularly during your last rotation, where we’ll focus on which roles could be right for you.

The Customer Solutions pathway is excellent preparation for a wide range of career paths, and some of the potential next Commercial roles you could move into may include:

Supporting you

We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates, and the friendly, down to earth community they have shaped.

Before you join us, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ who’ll be a graduate already on the programme, and who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.

We’ll also assign you a line manager and a desk manager. Your graduate coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal development plan. Your placement manager will provide rotation specific support, and will change with each placement. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.

About you

You’ll need to be on course for, or already possess, a 2:1 in your degree. There’s no one subject area we have in mind, but we’ll be looking out for people:
