What you'll do

You’ll be updating your learning log so, towards the end of the internship, you’ll be able to show off everything you’ve learned in your final assessment.
We’ll pair you up with a ‘buddy’ and a line manager you’ll support you for the full ten weeks. Your buddy will be a current graduate who’ll help you get settled by sharing their experience. Your line manager will provide guidance and support throughout the programme, and help you grow your professional network.
For a fuller picture of how you’ll progress through the ten weeks, check out the Learning Journey below.
If we offer you a role, one of the first things we’ll do is invite you to join our on-boarding portal. The portal’s a website and we use it because it’s a great way for us to communicate key messages so you’re ready for your first day. We’ll pair you up with a buddy who’ll be there to answer your questions before starting and who’ll help you throughout your ten weeks. We’ll introduce you to your line manager before you start too, all so you can hit the ground running.
Here’s where you’ll learn about RBS, meet your fellow interns and have the chance to talk with colleagues, including senior leaders, from around our business.
As well as giving you an overview of the bank, the induction will outline the goals of the programme and introduce you to our values and explain the work you’ll be involved in over the next ten weeks. You’ll also learn about the training we’ll provide and how we’ll assess you whilst you’re with us.
You’ll also be given regular knowledge build spotlights during the ten weeks to keep focused on your learning.
Over the ten weeks, we’ll place you into a business area/team with specific objectives to work towards. You’ll be given accountability and responsibility for delivering against objectives set by your line manager like finding a solution or improvement in your area.
During the programme you’ll take part in a community project with a team of fellow graduates. This involves linking up with a charitable organisation and developing and delivering a solution to support their work.
You’ll have the chance to participate in a fund raising competition with other teams, and present your project to a panel of senior managers. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to a valuable cause and put your entrepreneurial skills to the test!
Towards the end of the internship, you’ll be assessed on what you’ve learned, against the goals and values explained in the induction. You’ll be keeping up a learning log week by week, and you’ll be discussing progress with your line manager throughout. You’ll present on this, individually, towards the end of the programme.
In the penultimate week you’ll present, individually, on the business improvement project you’ve been involved in, and you’ll also have an end of internship review. Complete these successfully, and you could be offered a place on our 2020 Change and Business Solutions graduate pathway.
From there you can carry the skills you’ve learned forward and take the next exciting step in your career.
If you’d like to apply for this internship, you’ll need to be in your penultimate year of a university degree, and on course to achieve a 2:1.
