Risk Technology provides all the applications and associated support required by the Risk Business Function. The department comprises a Production Support Team, a “Business As Usual” (BAU) Team, Release & Engineering and Development Team (which provides continuous development / change / enhancements as well as responding to escalations from Production Support). The department is split across two locations – London and Gurgaon (India).
This role reports to the Head of Risk Engineering based in India and will collaborate with other Risk Engineering staff based in India.
What the Business does
This role is based in the Release Engineering at NatWest Market Risk.
Release and environment engineer is expected to provide technical analysis and associated solutions for all infrastructure related requirements and issues. This role will also be responsible for running all infrastructure related projects for various applications within Risk department. In addition, the Engineering Lead will be an evangelist for good engineering practices for infrastructure management.
As a Release Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
Undertake regular Build and Release activities on PRE-PROD and Production environments.Provide support to support teams and Developer community on application/build/release related issues.
Maintain documentation, actions and resolutions in-line with RBS best practices, to ensure knowledge accessibility and continuous learning amongst team.Experience of working with code repositories like SVN (or similar) and automation of configuration management tasks
Identify opportunities for improving day to day practices for release team members with the goal of delivering service improvements to development and support teams
Perform the releases in to production environment and engage in pre-production/UAT testing prior to any release, ensure Release processes are followed
Provide Setup related Assistance by, unit testing of setup on different environment, debug and fix issues faced by team in installation of setup, assist QA team in getting the setup tested by providing required guidelines for setup & deployment, work with Documentation team in documenting Setup and Deployment process, maintaining the versioning of assemblies and application as per the builds released. Configure dev/test/pre-prod/production environments to accommodate new services and hardware.
Improve Setup and Build Process by, automating setup and build related tasks, reengineering setup for better user experience, leading up to building a continuous integration system for all our products.
The Skills you’ll need
In order to be successful in this role, you must have the following skills & experience:
Version Control Tools:SVN, ClearCase, CVS or Git
Continuous Integration Tools Team City, Jenkins, CruiseControl, Apache Continuum Or Hudson.
Continuous Inspection Tool SonarQube.Software Build Tools Ant, Maven, MSBuild.
Scripting Technologies Perl, DOS Batch Scripting and Shell Scripting.Database engineering (SYBASE ASE, MSSQL) & Big Data.
Knowledge of Coherence/Hadoop will be an advantage.Knowledge of Grid Computing
Strong UNIX skills (shell/Perl scripts and command line utilities)
