Along with serving our customers, our vision is to be the most sustainable bank in the UK. That means doing the right thing, and being simple and fair to do business with. It also means being a net benefit to business and the communities we serve, and taking responsibility for our environmental impact.
Here’s a selection of what our people achieved in 2015.
- Our new Accessible Debit Card launched, designed to be easier to use for blind and partially sighted customers. The card is available from NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland, and received the Royal National Institute for the Blind’s quality assurance mark
- We helped 900,000 customers facing financial difficulty
- We protected customers from £264m of attempted fraud, preventing 325,000 attempted cases in the UK
- We delivered 500 seminars to around 18,000 business and commercial clients, educating them on the latest fraud scams and giving advice on protecting themselves
- Our people spent a recorded 45,437 hours volunteering for charity and community projects
- 10,000 employees in the UK and Ireland donated a combined £2.7 million to charity through our Pay as You Earn scheme
- Our MoneySense programme – one of the longest-running, most innovative financial education initiatives for 5-18 year olds – celebrated its 21st birthday
- We released our Let’s Talk Mental Health guide, and a resources toolkit in support of World Mental Health day in October
- We became an official partner of Sport Relief, and our colleagues raised over £770,000 for the charity
- 27,000 colleagues signed up for the Global Corporate Challenge, committing to take 10,000 steps a day, and improving their health and diet
- We lowered our scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide emissions by 11%
- We reduced the amount of paper we used by 23% compared to 2014; we’ve reduced it by 61% since 2011
- Our total energy consumption was trimmed by 8%; 2% for every person we employ full time
